Day 1

Sacred Heart Novena in preparation for

Consecration of the United States to the Sacred Heart

The goal of prayer is to find joy in the presence of God, and to see His will, and be willing to do His will.

When we think about God, the center is the head, but the place of prayer is the heart.   Why?  We can see ourselves in so many ways, and philosophize about ourselves, but in our hearts, we are ourselves;  in our hearts, we are who we really are.  This is why the “place” of prayer is in the heart, not in the mind.

It is so very  O.K. to ask for those spiritual gifts  which let us enjoy God deep within our hearts. Even the Liturgy has it::  “Fill us with your delights”,  “Grant us the taste and joy and love of your law”.  We know from Psalm 119 that “law” can be substituted with “love”.  God doesn’t want anything, or command anything, that doesn’t come from His loving heart.  The Creator made our hearts, and He alone can satisfy them.

Psalm 119: 169-175

Let my cry come before you, Lord;
in keeping with your word, give me understanding.
Let my prayer come before you;
rescue me according to your promise.
May my lips pour forth your praise,
because you teach me your love.
May my tongue sing of your promise,
for all your commandments are righteous.
Keep your hand ready to help me,
for I have chosen your love.
I long for your salvation, Lord;
your love is my delight.
 Let my soul live to praise you;
may your love give me help.

God the Son, Redeemer of the world, have mercy on us.

Heart of Jesus, king and center of all hearts, have mercy on us.

Heart of Jesus, delight of all the Saints, have mercy on us.
