April 2 – Camino Pilgrimage

The Sacred Heart Sisters joined over two thousand pilgrims who walked with Archbishop Gomez from Mission San Gabriel Arcángel to downtown LA. The walk was part of the ongoing celebrations for the “Forward in Mission” Jubilee commemorating 250 years since the founding of Mission San Gabriel and the birth of the Catholic faith in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. #ForwardinMission

On April 2, eight Sacred Heart Sisters – Sister Rosemarie, Sister Joanna, Sister Teresa, Sister Rachael, Sister Sophia, Sister Hannah, Sister Claire and Sister Melissa, – joined the 11 mile pilgrimage Camino Walk. It started with Mass at 8 am at Mission San Gabriel and stopped by three churches and Cathedral High School, with our final destination at the Cathedral of our Lady of the Angels where we ceremoniously walked through the jubilee door and ended with a prayer service led by Archbishop Gomez.

It was a very uplifting, unifying and renewing experience and great exercise for the soul and the body. We kept taking turns carrying Venerable Patrick Payton’s banner who was assigned to our group. May he intercede for us for vocations.

Archbishop Gomez was touched seeing the cathedral so filled with people and said cheerfully “the Church is ALIVE! Indeed!!! We are on the side of the Victorious One who walks with us each day until we reach our dearest and most longed for home in the Father’s House.”
